Episode 139, in which Mike Bobbitt takes over leadership of the Motorcycle Relief Project

It’s been a minute since Mike Bobbitt took on his leadership role with the Motorcycle Relief Project, but that doesn’t matter to what he and the team at MRP are trying to accomplish. In Episode 139 (yeah, 1-3-9!), we expand on the role of MRP in the motorcycling world as Mike takes over from founder Tom Larson, whom we featured in Episode 3 – several years and over 130 episodes ago!

Mike talks about the MRP’s mission, which has expanded to include not just US combat veterans, but all military veterans and first responders (police, EMTs, firefighters, etc.) as well. After all, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can stem from more than being shot at in a combat zone, and it would do us all well to remember this.

Note: In this episode, we discuss issues including PTSD, other traumas and suicide. If you’re in the USA and in crisis or considering suicide, please dial 9-8-8 on your phone to be connected to the national Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Veterans, after connecting dial 1 to talk to somebody who understands your unique issues. If you’re in Canada, call 1 833 456 4566 any time or text 45645 (available 4 PM to midnight). In the UK, dial 0800 689 6562. In the UK and Ireland, dial 116123. In Australia, call 13 11 14. In New Zealand, call 0800 543 354 or text 4357 (HELP). These are the countries with the most CTH listeners – and we don’t mean to leave anybody out, so if you’re in crisis or considering suicide, please reach out to the helpline in your country.

We’d like to welcome Nancy and Mark, the couple behind the fun Mimi and Moto books, as episode sponsors! You might remember them from Episode 76, but if you don’t – give that episode a listen and then cruise on over to their website at mimiandmoto.com to pick up some books and other gifts for the kids in your life this holiday season.

In the news for this episode, we look at the last Harley Sportster off the production line, new Honda technology and a big sales quarter for one specific Royal Enfield model. In EM news – remember that’s Electric Motorcycles and we’re trying to help that catch on! – Royal Enfield is moving towards production of its first electric motorcycle, and Chinese manufacturer Horwin has a new bike coming out in 2023.
